The basis of this EWB project it to bring cost effective telecommunications and connectivity to remote communities within the Cape York region.

The system here isn’t a cure all and will not work where there is absolutely no signal, that is where a satellite system would be needed but in places where it could take an hour to send a text or the community must travel to obtain signal, this system could be the affordable solution.

It is based on an available 4G signal repeater, but it will be implemented with a standalone power supply so that it can function maintenance free for extended periods of time. With a battery life of up to 10 years provided there is no physical or component damage, the repeater could be considered maintenance free. All materials are rated for extreme weather and will not require relocation during the wet therefor providing an additional link if an emergency should arise.

Being based on a 4G network conventional mobile phone handsets are used, and more importantly normal phone plans as opposed to the expensive satellite plans with limited data. This could represent a cost saving for the community where previously a single satellite phone may have been the only option.
